Why was this study done?
Tursi and colleagues introduced a research collection examining diverticular disease, a condition affecting the colon that causes significant health problems but has received limited research attention. The condition ranges from symptom-free diverticula (small pouches in the colon wall) to symptomatic uncomplicated diverticular disease (SUDD) and acute diverticulitis (inflammation of the diverticula).
