£86.45 a week for someone who cares for you at least 35 hours a week

Cost: Free

What you get

A weekly payment to whoever provides at least 35 hours a week of care for you (a family member, partner or friend, not necessarily living with you), plus National Insurance credits for them and possible knock-on entitlement to Council Tax Reduction, Universal Credit or Pension Credit.

Who qualifies

The carer must spend 35+ hours a week caring and earn £204 or less a week after tax, NI and expenses. The person being cared for (i.e. the person with IBD) must already receive PIP daily living component, DLA middle/highest care rate, Attendance Allowance, Adult/Child Disability Payment, Pension Age Disability Payment or Armed Forces Independence Payment.

Evidence accepted

  • The cared-for person's PIP/DLA/AA/ADP award letter
  • Details of caring hours
IMPORTANT TO NOTE This is a benefit for whoever cares for someone with severe IBD, not for the person with IBD directly — relevant where a partner, parent or adult child provides regular hands-on or supervisory care around flares, hospital admissions or fatigue.
